Origin
This 100 bag lot comes from the community of Tierra Blanca. The indigenous Zapotec population in Tierra Blanca have been growing coffee for generations, situated in the highland mountain region of Mexico's Sierra Madre de Oaxaca mountain range. 27 different farmers contributed coffee to this regional blend, all members of the local coffee cooperative UNECAFE. This coop sprung up in 2009 in order to help farmers who were struggling to bounce back from the coffee price crisis of the late 80's, by assisting with access to the global market, offering technical assistance and help with certifications. They've made real efforts to help restore price stability to Tierra Blanca coffee farmers and surrounding growing regions. The farmers of Tierra Blanca are growing a mix of mostly older Bourbon and Typica types, and Marsellesa (a disease-resistant hybrid), with altitudes stretching up to about 1500 meters above sea level. This lot is certified Fair Trade and Organic.
